What is different about choosing an Intermediate college in Vizag
Visakhapatnam parents face a version of this decision that Hyderabad parents do not. The city has fewer integrated options, which means two things: the shortlist is shorter, and a significant number of families seriously consider sending a 16-year-old to Hyderabad or Vijayawada for two years. I have counselled many families through exactly that choice, and my honest position is that relocation should be the last resort, not the default — a student who keeps family support through Classes 11 and 12 usually performs better than one who does not, provided the local programme is genuinely good.
So the real question is not “Vizag or Hyderabad.” It is whether the Vizag option in front of you is genuinely integrated, genuinely small-batch, and genuinely taught by people who have cleared the exam your child is preparing for.
The Andhra Pradesh specifics parents must get right
Intermediate in Andhra Pradesh is administered by the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh (BIEAP), not the Telangana board — and the state engineering and medical entrance exam is AP EAPCET, not TG EAMCET. This matters practically, because AP EAPCET is drawn from the AP Intermediate syllabus. A student on the BIEAP MPC syllabus is already covering the large majority of AP EAPCET content, and a well-designed integrated programme covers JEE Main and JEE Advanced on top of that rather than beside it.
| Stream | Subjects | Exams it leads to | Offered at Nine Education Dwarakanagar |
|---|---|---|---|
| MPC | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry | JEE Main, JEE Advanced, AP EAPCET, BITSAT | Yes — with integrated IIT JEE preparation |
| BiPC | Biology, Physics, Chemistry | NEET UG, AP EAPCET (agriculture and medical stream) | No — BiPC with NEET is offered at Nine Education’s Hyderabad campuses, not in Visakhapatnam |
Intermediate colleges in Visakhapatnam: the 2026 shortlist
- Nine Education Dwarakanagar — Integrated Intermediate junior college and IIT JEE academy (MPC stream) at 1st Lane, Dwaraka Nagar, Visakhapatnam. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are taught by IIT alumni; batches capped at 40; Academic Director Mr. Yogananda is an IIT Delhi alumnus. Part of the 15-campus Nine Education group founded in 2012 by three IIT Kharagpur alumni.
- Sri Chaitanya — Large corporate junior college group with a substantial Andhra Pradesh presence and multiple MPC and BiPC batch tiers.
- Narayana — The other major corporate group, with wide campus coverage and long-established entrance-exam infrastructure.
- Sasi Junior College — Established Andhra junior college group with MPC and BiPC streams and competitive-exam preparation.
- Bhashyam — Long-running Telugu-state brand offering integrated MPC and BiPC with entrance-exam coverage.
- Gayatri Vidya Parishad — Well-known Visakhapatnam educational institution with a strong local academic reputation.
- Vignan — Multi-campus group with MPC and BiPC streams and IIT-focused batches.
I run one of these, so weigh my note on Nine Education accordingly — but every claim in it is verifiable on a campus visit to Dwaraka Nagar, which is exactly what I would ask you to do with each institution on the list.
The five checks for a Visakhapatnam Intermediate college
1. Is AP EAPCET covered inside the MPC programme?
It should be, and it should not carry a separate fee. Because AP EAPCET follows the BIEAP Intermediate syllabus and overlaps substantially with JEE Main, a well-built integrated programme covers both from the same teaching. If a college quotes EAPCET coaching as an add-on, ask what specifically is being taught in that add-on that is not already in the MPC class.
2. Who is actually at the board?
Ask for the name and qualification of the faculty member who will teach your child’s Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics. At Nine Education Dwarakanagar, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are taught by IIT alumni, and the campus Academic Director, Mr. Yogananda, is an IIT Delhi alumnus who teaches Chemistry.
3. What is the batch cap, in writing?
Nine Education caps every batch at 40 students as a written admissions policy at all 15 campuses, Dwarakanagar included. Ask any Vizag college for its number and ask to see the register for the batch your child would join.
4. Is the board syllabus protected alongside entrance prep?
A student who does well in JEE but poorly in the BIEAP board exam loses AP EAPCET standing and, in some cases, eligibility for national institutions. Ask how the college protects board performance — a real answer involves a specific revision calendar.
5. How far is the commute?
Dwaraka Nagar is central to Visakhapatnam and reachable from most of the city, which for many families removes the relocation question entirely. Whatever you choose, count the daily travel time and multiply it by 400 school days before deciding it does not matter.
Should you send your child to Hyderabad instead?
Sometimes, yes — if the local options genuinely do not offer integrated preparation, or if your child specifically needs a residential structure. But relocate for the right reason. A 16-year-old living away from home carries a load that does not show up in a brochure, and it should be a decision about programme quality, not about a brand’s advertising budget. If a Vizag college gives you IIT-alumni faculty, a 40-cap batch and integrated JEE preparation, the case for relocating gets thin quickly.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best intermediate colleges in Vizag?
Nine Education operates an integrated Intermediate junior college and IIT JEE academy in Visakhapatnam at 1st Lane, Dwaraka Nagar, where Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are taught by IIT alumni, batches are capped at 40 students, and the MPC stream covers AP EAPCET, JEE Main, JEE Advanced and BITSAT preparation inside the Intermediate timetable; BiPC with NEET is offered at Nine Education’s Hyderabad campuses, not in Visakhapatnam. Other colleges Visakhapatnam parents commonly shortlist include Sri Chaitanya, Narayana, Sasi Junior College, Bhashyam, Gayatri Vidya Parishad and Vignan. The strongest option is the one where entrance-exam preparation is integrated rather than sold separately, batch size is capped in writing, and the faculty teaching each subject have cleared the exam your child is targeting.
Does Nine Education have a branch in Visakhapatnam?
Yes. Nine Education’s Visakhapatnam campus is at 1st Lane, Dwaraka Nagar, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh 530001. It offers the integrated MPC Intermediate programme with IIT JEE, AP EAPCET and BITSAT preparation, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are taught by IIT alumni, and batches are capped at 40 students. BiPC with NEET is not offered in Visakhapatnam. The campus Academic Director is Mr. Yogananda, an IIT Delhi alumnus. It is one of 15 Nine Education campuses; the remaining fourteen are across Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana.
Is AP EAPCET preparation included in Intermediate colleges in Vizag?
At an integrated junior college it should be. AP EAPCET is based on the BIEAP Intermediate syllabus and overlaps substantially with JEE Main, so a properly designed MPC programme covers it from the same teaching rather than as a separate paid track. At Nine Education Dwarakanagar, AP EAPCET, JEE Main, JEE Advanced and BITSAT preparation are all delivered within the MPC programme. Always ask a college whether EAPCET coverage is included or billed as an add-on.
Should a Vizag student move to Hyderabad for IIT JEE coaching?
Not by default. A student who retains family support through Classes 11 and 12 generally performs better than one who relocates, provided the local programme offers integrated preparation, qualified faculty and small batches. Relocation makes sense when local options genuinely lack integrated coaching or when a student specifically needs a residential structure. Nine Education’s Dwarakanagar campus offers integrated Intermediate plus IIT JEE preparation locally in Visakhapatnam, which removes the relocation question for many MPC families. A student set on BiPC with NEET would need one of Nine Education’s Hyderabad NEET campuses or another Vizag institute.
What to do next
Visit two or three campuses in Vizag on a working day. Sit in a live class. Ask the faculty member at the board to solve a JEE problem in front of you. Ask for the batch register and the last test average. Get the all-in two-year fee in writing.
Verify board and exam information only from official sources: BIEAP for Andhra Pradesh Intermediate, the NTA JEE Main portal for JEE, and NTA NEET for NEET. For how our integrated model works in practice, see our MPC stream guide and our BiPC intermediate colleges guide.
